A detailed description of the different disciplines you may shoot

TRAP
Targets are thrown as singles from one trap situated 15m in front of the shooting house and are going away from the firing point at varying speeds, angles and elevations.  The most common disciplines in this group are down the line (DTL) automatic ball trap (ABT) olympic trap (OT) and universal trench (UT).  In down the line, each 25 bird round is scored out of 75 - 3 points for a first barrel kill, 2 points for a second barrel kill and 0 for a miss.  All other trap disciplines are scored out of 25.  "Full use" of the gun is available unless single barrel is specified. With DTL the targets are thrown to a distance of 45 to 50 metres at a fixed height of approx. 2.75m and with a horizontal spread of up to 22 degrees either side of the centre line.  Each shooter shoots at a single target in turn but without moving from the stand until 5 targets have been shot.  All shooters then move on one position - this is repeated until all 25 targets have been shot.  With universal trench or "five trap" the targets are installed in a trench in front of the shooting stand and all targets are set at different angles, elevations and speeds, the machine will select a random target each time the shooter calls "PULL".  After each target shot, the shooter moves on one place and this is repeated until all 25 targets have been shot. Olympic trap is one of the hardest disciplines - again the targets are set into a trench in front of the shooters, there are 15 traps and they travel 75 to 80 metres at varying elevations with a maximum horizontal angle of 45 degrees either side of the centre line. After each target shot, the shooter moves on one place and this is repeated until all 25 targets have been shot.  Automatic ball trap follows the same principles as universal trench and olympic trap, however, this is one target which oscillates continually, targets are thrown to a maximum of 80 metres.

SKEET
Targets are thrown in singles and doubles from 2 trap houses situated approx 40 metres apart at opposite ends of a semi-circle.  7 Shooting positions are marked out around the semi-circle.  2 singles and 1 pair are shot from position 1 and 2, 2 singles from position 3, 2 singles and 1 pair from position 4, 1 pair from position 5 and 2 singles and 1 pair from position 6 & 7.  The first "missed" target is taken as a repeat to make up the 25 targets, if the shooter is "straight" up to the 24th target, they may choose a single of their choice, a single target from the high house or a single target from the low house.  The main disciplines in this group are English Skeet, Olympic Skeet and NSSA Skeet.  In English skeet, the gun position is optional (i.e pre-mounted or out-of-the-shoulder when the target is called) and the targets are released immediately upon the shooters call.  In Olympic skeet, the targets travel at a considerably faster speed, the release of the target can be delayed up to 3 seconds after calling and the gun-down position is compulsory.  There is also an eighth shooting station, midway between the two houses.

SPORTING
English sporting has the biggest following.  Whilst the other disciplines use standard targets, in sporting just about anything goes!  Targets are thrown in a great variety of trajections, angles, speeds, elevations and distances and the discipline was originally devised to simulate live quarry shooting, hence some of the names commonly used for sporting stands are: springing teal, driven pheasant, bolting rabbit, crossing pigeon, dropping duck etc.  Disciplines in this group include English sporting, International sporting (FITASC), super sporting, and Compak.  Each round of sporting is either 50 targets or 100 targets and targets must be shot in each of the cages.
